A PPC Bag Story

The PPC Cement Laptop Bag is our longest standing product. It is where the company started on it’s path of paper reinvention! The PPC Cement Laptop Bag is synonymous with Wren.

Over the years customers have graciously shared their stories of owning a PPC Cement Laptop Bag. The bag has been described to us as the best conversation starter ever and a terrific ice-breaker at meetings (some customers have even told us how they stopped taking the bag to meetings becuase it was such a distraction from the agenda). My all time favourite is how this bag played match maker and introduced two people who later got marriage!

This story below was shared with me by Ridwaan who went to great lengths to get himself a PPC Cement Laptop Bag.

“It all started in 2014. I am a student at the University of Pretoria and I had seen another student with the PPC bag on campus and immediately fell in love with the bag. Unfortunately I was not able to ask that student where he purchased it from and I had never seen him again, or anyone else with that bag. So I decided to contact PPC directly to ask them about it and that is how I was lead to The Wren Design.

Unfortunately at that time, still being an undergraduate student, I could not afford the bag but always had it at the back of my mind. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering in 2014 and an Honours Degree in Structural Engineering in 2015. In 2016 I had began my Masters Degree in structures but more specifically, Laminated Timber Beams. Unfortunately 2016 was a dreadful year for me. The striking on campuses across South Africa had major consequences with my schedule and to make matters worse, my laptop had crashed towards the end of the year losing a lot of my data and work. It took about two months to recover some of the files and in January 2017 I saw myself making a fresh start. About 6 months down the line, I realised that my research was ineffective and insignificant. I had really battled to accomplish much while being a Teaching Assistant to the Department. I had made a difficult decision to cancel my Masters. Before I could do so, a friend made a remarkable suggestion that instead of giving up, rather pursue a different topic, more closely related to my undergraduate research which was concrete. After speaking to some lecturers, I decided to attempt the impossible, to complete a Masters in just 4 months!

I began in September with the new project which has not yet been titled but entails a hybrid cement foamed concrete. So to answer your question as to why I choose this specific bag? the answer is simply because I use this specific cement in my Masters research! Starting this new project, I needed more mobility and purchased a new laptop. The laptop needed a bag and I thought it most befitting that I buy the bag I have wanted for 4 years!
