The ‘English’ Wren bags are made of very special linen’s and cottons.

David Bellamy from Reibeek Kasteel imports the ends of fabric rolls to sell to South Africans like myself who cannot help but go weak at the knees at the sight and feel of such exquisite fabrics.

Names such as Designers Guild, Liberty Lawn, Sanderson Linen, Romo, Nina Cambell, Etamine, Corington, Jean Munro, Margaretha Cushing, Lee Joffa, Jorelle and more are available at David’s shop (open once a week in the Tinka Tonka Studio in Muizenberg).

David not only imports and sells fabrics. He runs and owns The Cape Francolin Art Hotel in Reibeek Kasteel and as a hobby re-upholsters antique chairs using old coffee-bean sacks. Each chair is individually selected and together with the patience and skill of only a true craftsman, aligns, cuts and covers the chair in this worn soft hessian coffee sack.

This chair is also amazingly comfortable. I think it would make the most perfect entrance hall or library room hair. I tried to smell out the coffee, but unfortunately (or fortunately) the scent no longer lingers. Only the richness and mystery of the coffee sack’s travels remain. This is luxury in fine reform.
