This is why having a blog is a FANTASTIC thing – I actually DID my goals. I referred back to this terrific post written by Kerry a few months back titled ‘effective goal setting’. I know a lot of the points – such as be specific etc but it is always good to be reminded.
I truly believe in writing down my goals. Since I was young I have written my goals down and I am still astounded by how they just about always come true. For example, In school I would write down the exact mark I wanted for subject and at the end of term they would be maybe a percent off, if not exact. Last year (for Wren) I wanted to:
√ Make a profit livable by.
√ Use fabric sourced from different countries (and that happened with the coffee sacks as they are from all over the world!)
√ Have a stand at the Neighbour Goods Market / The Old Biscuit Mill.
So here are some of mine for 2009:
* To have a Wren studio by July:
- 40 square meters (min).
- Big cutting table.
- Good location.
- Inspiring character.
* To double the size of my range by the end of the year. (10 standard products).
* To design my own fabric collection (drawn by hand and original) for Wren
- Two one-colour fabrics by July
- Five fabrics by December
*Design products that are affordable for wholesale.
…and then I have my all-time personal favourites (as I divide my work goals and personal goals):
- Travel to the Rice Paddies, Indigo Fields and Maldives by the time I am 35.
- Learn how to dye using natural dyes from the dye fields in India.
- Have a Ridgeback dog.

My goal-setting tip: I always include pictures on my printed out goal sheet – it is easier to be visually reminded than have to read them. (Doesn’t the rice paddies above look amazing? So calm and beautiful). A pictures inspires me to achieve the goal more.
