The other night at Pecha Kucha I was exposed to some great artists and creatives who live in and around Cape Town. Dylan Culhane was one of those that stood out from the rest and his photographic and wallpaper art really made an impression on me. Take a look at these photographic wallpapers and you will see what I am talking about.

Dylan’s work is a result of experimentation to try and find new and interesting ways of seeing the world. As he describes it, his work “relies on a tension between the real and the imagined, blurring the boundaries between photography, painting, illustration and design”.

What I love most about Dylan’s work is that his photographs (in the above examples at least) are of rather mundane everyday things. Barbed wire and towering buildings are not exactly the most beautiful thing you will see in a day, but he seen it for it’s potential. He has created art pieces that covers a whole wall and that is pleasing to the eye. He has taken the ordinary and made it extraordinary.

I am delighted to read about such culturally hype city. so much going on, so many creative ideas. And I say this because Im from Argentina (south america) but live in The Netherlands now, and people in this continent tend to think that anything creative, artsy, worth paying attention to, happens up here. southern hemisphere is just a mass of third world countries (exept Australia which is down there by mistake I guess) whom have no money or time to create. i always say, out of necesity comes ingenuity.
Just wanted to share that. Wish you all the best with your shop and designs! you show them!
